Companion services

What companions help with

Everyday support from someone who feels like family. You choose a companion for the language spoken at the table and the routines that already feel familiar. They talk, cook, run errands, tidy, help with a phone or a form, and go along to appointments.

All of it is non-medical. A companion does not administer medication, lift or transfer anyone, or do anything that needs a regulated health professional. Every companion is vetted by our team, chooses the services they offer, and sets their own hourly rate, which you see before you book.

Cultural connection

Care feels different when you feel understood.

Families can look for the languages, food, customs, and day-to-day habits that matter at home. A companion does not have to learn the basics after they arrive.

You decide what a good match means for your family. Saheli gives you clear details and leaves that choice with you.

A clear way to start

How Saheli works

One clear path from your first search to a care plan you both understand.

  1. 01

    Browse companions

Use the filters to find people who fit your family's language, community, and care needs.

  2. 02

    Choose who feels right

Review companions and decide who you want to meet. Nobody gets assigned to you.

  3. 03

    Agree on the details

You and the companion set the visits, tasks, and hourly rate before care starts.

Safety

Clear limits. Safer care.

Saheli is for everyday, non-medical care. We state the limits before a family and a companion agree to work together.

What we check

Every companion applies and is interviewed by a member of our team before they can appear on Saheli. When a companion provides a criminal record check, we review it ourselves, and their profile carries a record-checked badge.

Checks add useful facts. They do not guarantee that a person will suit every family, so you still meet and choose for yourself.

What companions do not do

  • Counselling or therapy
  • Advice about health, treatment, diet, legal matters, or money
  • Lifting or transferring someone who cannot bear their own weight
  • Handling money or signing documents
  • Nursing or medical care, including injections, wound care, or monitoring a health condition
  • Administering medication. A companion does not give, measure, sort, or apply it, or decide anything about it. Reminders for a plan already set are fine
  • Anything that needs a regulated health professional

FAQ

Questions families ask

Clear answers before you start looking for a companion.

What can a companion help with?

Companions can spend time together, cook, do light tidying and laundry, run errands, and provide company at appointments or community activities.

Is this medical care?

No. Saheli companions provide everyday, non-medical support. Companions do not give medical or nursing care, administer medication, counsel or give advice, lift or transfer anyone, handle money or sign documents, or take on anything else that needs a regulated health professional. They can remind someone of a medication schedule the family has already set.

How does Saheli vet companions?

Every companion applies and meets with a Saheli team member before appearing on the marketplace. When a companion provides a criminal record check, we review it and show that signal on their profile.

How do I choose a companion?

Review profiles, compare the fit, and decide who to message. You and the companion agree on visits, tasks, and the hourly rate before care starts.

Can I arrange care for someone else?

Yes. Saheli is built for family members and friends arranging non-medical support for someone they care about.

Where does Saheli operate?

Saheli serves families across Ontario: Toronto (Toronto, Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke); Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon); York Region (Markham, Vaughan, Woodbridge, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, King City, East Gwillimbury); Durham (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa); Halton (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown); Hamilton and Niagara (Hamilton, Stoney Creek, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, Grimsby); Waterloo and Wellington (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph); Southwestern Ontario (London, Windsor, Sarnia, Chatham, Brantford, Woodstock, Stratford); Ottawa and Eastern Ontario (Ottawa, Kanata, Orléans, Kingston, Belleville, Cornwall, Peterborough); Central and Northern Ontario (Barrie, Orillia, Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, Timmins). Every companion lists their city and how far they travel, so many serve the towns around them as well.

How much does companion care cost?

Each companion sets their own hourly rate, and you see it on their profile before you book. Saheli adds a service fee to the family's total, shown as its own line before you confirm, and the companion keeps their full listed rate.
